Briseño, Skinner to play for U.S. in the Volleyball Nations League
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Two Baylor volleyball alumnae have been chosen to USA Volleyball's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) wide roster, the organization released Thursday.
Lauren Briseño (libero) and Avery Skinner (outside hitter) have been named to the 30-player long-list roster for the U.S. Women's National Team, prepping for the 2025 VNL, the world's premier annual international tournament.
Skinner is one of three Olympians announced to the list, winning silver at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This will be Briseño's first senior National Team appearance.
The VNL is comprised of the world's top 18 teams for three weeks of preliminary play, with each team competing four matches per week. The top eight teams earn a spot in the final round for the VNL title.
The U.S.' coaches will select 14 athletes from the wide roster to compete at each of the three preliminary round locations, which include Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (June 4-8), Belgrade, Serbia (June 18-22) and Arlington, Texas (July 9-13). The Final Round will take place in Łódź, Poland, July 23-27.
The U.S. women are currently ranked No. 3 in the world and have won the VNL three times since its inception in 2018 (2018, '19, '21). The 2024 squad, which included Skinner, fell in the quarterfinals round to eventual Olympic champion Italy.
