TEMPE, Ariz. – Baylor women's tennis earned four ITA Regional Awards, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday morning. As recipients of the region awards, each honoree moves on to the national ballot with winners announced on Thursday.
In the Texas Region,
Lenka Broosova was named Assistant Coach of the Year for the first time since Alison Ojeda earned the honor in 2015.
Liubov Kostenko received the Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award, becoming the second Bear in as many years to earn the distinction.
Na Dong was named Rookie of the Year, Baylor's first since 2008, and the team also took home the Community Service Award.
Broosova capped off her time as a Bear by becoming the fourth assistant to win the fifth Assistant Coach of the Year award in program history for Baylor. In her last year on the sidelines, BU posted 20 wins for the 15
th time ever and won 10 Big 12 matches for the most in 14 seasons. The team finished the season ranked No. 24 nationally with four All-Big 12 selections.
Kostenko followed
Isabella Harvison's 2024 recognition to give Baylor back-to-back recipients of the Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award. The award honors a Division I women's student-athlete who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. The award dates back to 1997 and is in memory of the late and widely admired Penn women's tennis coach Cissie Leary.
Dong, the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, gives BU its first ITA Rookie of the Year nod in 17 seasons after an impressive first season of collegiate tennis in America. Coming to Waco from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Dong made an immediate impact for the Bears, winning six singles and four doubles matches in the fall slate before finding her groove in spring dual-match play. Dong only dropped one singles match in the spring, ending the season on a 15-match winning streak.
The team's Community Service Award honors the squad's commitment to giving back to campus and the community through tennis and non-tennis pathways.
