Zack and Tzeng pick up upset wins in singles action

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Baylor women's tennis wrapped up the University of Tennessee's Lady Vols Invite to open its spring slate on Sunday afternoon at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.

Among the three-day invitational, newcomer Bears Mu-Jie Tzeng and Alian Zack earned their first spring singles win in green and gold while also picking up upset wins. Tzeng won her match, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2, against Vanderbilt's No. 36 Mia Yamakita on Saturday, while Zack defeated Arizona State's No. 76 Vivian Ovrootsky, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.

In doubles, the duo of Kennedy Gibbs and Zack posted a 2-1 record on the weekend. The duo earned a, 6-4, win against Vanderbilt and a, 6-3, victory over Arizona State before narrowly falling, 7-6 (7), against Tennessee. Spring freshmen Neda Rahimkhani and Gabrielle Villegas earned their first doubles win in a green and gold uniform, taking down Arizona State, 6-2, on Saturday.

Baylor opens dual match competition hosting Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Facility.
