Bears move into first-place tie in Big 12 standings, even with Texas Tech and BYU

WACO, Texas – No. 9 Baylor cruised past Kansas 3-1 on Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field as Aryanna Jimison scored the team's first brace of the season in the 45^th and 47^th minutes and freshman Brynnlee Bohannon added her second goal of the year in the 68^th.

The win moved the Bears to 10-1-1 and extended their unbeaten streak to nine games overall and six in Big 12 play, dating to last season. Baylor scored three times against a Kansas squad that had allowed only six goals entering the match.

Baylor also climbed into a first-place tie in the Big 12 standings with Texas Tech and BYU at 3-0-1 as West Virginia handed Houston its first loss of conference play.

Baylor struck first in the final seconds before halftime when Jimison buried an unassisted shot, and she wasted no time after the break, scoring her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 47^th minute off assists from Sydney Miller and Theresa McCullough.

Bohannon added insurance in the 68^th minute, launching a shot from the top of the box off assists from Olivia Hess and McCullough. Hess' assist and McCullough's two on the night left both players tied for a team-high seven this season.

Kansas answered in the 90^th minute when Jillian Gregorski scored off an assist from Livvy Moore.

The Jayhawks held a 21-11 edge in shots, but Baylor goalkeeper Azul Alvarez made five saves while the Bears' offense forced Kansas goalkeeper Sophie Dawe to make six.

Baylor hits the road next to face Colorado at 8 p.m. CT on Thursday, Oct. 8. The match will stream on ESPN+ with live updates on the team's X account.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Michelle Lenard
On the Friday's win…
"Great result, [I'm] really happy with three points for conference. But I just thought the team played well from start to finish. They executed the game plan really well. We didn't create nearly as many opportunities in the first half as we would have wanted, but we definitely muted their attack and the type of threats that we knew that they would come into this game with, and then made some halftime adjustments, and then you saw a much more potent attack most in the second half. So I'm really proud of the team and thought we played well."
