Alvarez posted a season-high seven saves to earn fourth career honor
IRVING, Texas – Baylor goalkeeper, Azul Alvarez, was named the Big 12's Goalkeeper of the Week after posting a season-high seven saves against TCU on Friday night, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Austin, Texas native posted a season-high seven saves at home against the Horned Frogs in Baylor's 1-0 win, her highest tally since last season's Sweet 16 bout against Ohio State at Notre Dame. The fifth-year keeper tabbed back-to-back saves in the 88th and 89th minutes to seal the win, stopping a TCU free kick set up just inches outside of the box before the final leaping save that protected the top corner of the net.
The honor is the fourth of Alvarez's career and the eighth goalkeeper-specific nod since the criteria was added ahead of the 2020-21 season.
The Big 12 also named BYU's Mattyn Summers-Oviatt Offensive Player of the Week, Kansas' Livy Moore Defensive Player of the Week and Arizona State's Gator DeMark Freshman of the Week.
The Bears begin their final road trip of the regular season in the Grand Canyon State, facing Arizona State on Thursday night and Arizona on Sunday afternoon before closing the trip in the Lone Star State against Texas Tech on Oct. 30. All remaining regular-season matches will stream live on ESPN+.
