BU’s Faith Piper picks up a pair of doubles in the extra-inning contest
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Baylor softball came up just short in extra innings Wednesday night, falling 4-3 to San Diego State in eight innings at SDSU Softball Stadium.
The Bears erased a mid-game deficit with a pair of runs in the sixth inning to force extra innings, but the Aztecs walked it off in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win
RUNDOWN
BU struck first in the third inning as Faith Piper doubled to center field to drive in Amber Toven, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead.
After a strong start for Cambree Creager in the circle, matching a career-high with five strikeouts, San Diego State answered in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run inning to move in front 3-1.
The Bears responded in the sixth inning to even the score. Karynton Dawson singled to spark the rally before Leah Cran doubled down the left-field line to bring Baylor within one. Kaci West came off the bench to pinch hit and drew a throwing error, allowing Jayden King to score the tying run, knotting the game at three.
Both teams were held scoreless through the seventh, sending the contest into extra innings. After Baylor had runners at the corners with two outs, Kaygen Marshall was thrown out on a delayed steal to end the frame.
In the bottom of the eighth, San Diego State capitalized on a leadoff walk and sacrifice bunt before Tylie Kitchen delivered the walk-off RBI single to left-center field.
