WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to the Rice Owls on Friday afternoon at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bears (2-2) fought their way out of a 3-1 deficit, forcing a winner-take-all set on Court Four. Despite a strong effort from Alian Zack, Rice (4-2) was able to prevail after a 6-4 third set.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting in doubles, Rice was able to quickly pick up wins on Court Two and Court Three to secure the point. Court Two finished first, as Divna Ratkovic and Ema Mravcova forced a 6-0 victory before Court Three's Fernanda Martinez and Daniela Chica won, 6-3.
In singles, Zuzanna Kubacha finished first with a 6-3, 6-2 win on Court Two to level the match score at 1-1. Rice would then go on to secure back-to-back wins on Court Five and Court Three, taking a 3-1 lead, where Nithesa Selvaraj beat Mu-Jie Tzeng 6-2, 6-3, and Divna downed Gibbs, 6-1, 6-4.
Na Dong earned a clutch win on Court One 6-3, 6-3 to keep Baylor in the match and down just one. The match came down to the wire with Zack and Luna Ivkovic needing wins on Courts and Four and Six.
Ivkovic was able to pull off the win on Court Six, 7-6 (1), 2-6, 6-2, but unfortunately, Alian Zack came up just short on Court Four, giving the Owls a 4-3 victory.

Baylor returns to the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 8, to take on the No. 23 Washington Huskies.
