SAM RYDER DAY ONE RESULTS
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Surviving a slow start that saw them slip to the bottom of the team standings, the Baylor men shot 2-under the rest of the way and moved up to fourth place after 36 holes Monday at the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate.
Led by Auburn transfer Evan Vo and senior Jonas Appel, who are tied for 14th at 2-over-par 146, the Bears have four players in the top 25 and are fourth in the 14-team field at 7-over 583. The host Stetson team shot 8-under 568 and are 13 shots ahead of UTEP and Campbell (5-over, 581).
Tied for third in the field of 84 players with eight birdies, Vo strung together five birdies in a 10-hole stretch in shooting a second-round score of 2-under 70. Hurt by a triple-bogey 7 on the par-4 fifth hole of a morning-round 74, Appel bounced back with three birdies in an even-par round of 72 in the afternoon.
Senior Sam Dossey and UConn transfer Alex Heard are another shot back and tied for 23rd at 3-over 147, while junior Davis Ovard is tied for 31st at 5-over 149.
Through the first two rounds, Baylor is first in par-4 scoring at 2-over and fourth in par-5 scoring at 2-over. The Bears also led the field with 35 birdies.
