BU’s Marshall blasts her sixth homerun, climbing freshman homerun list
TUCSON, Arizona – No. 13 Arizona used a five-run fifth inning to pull away from Baylor, handing the Bears a 10-2 loss in six innings Friday night at Hillenbrand Stadium.
Much like last Friday night at No. 2 Texas, the Bears were inches away from tying the game in the top of the fifth on a Leah Cran single, but a perfect throw and tag from Arizona cut down Karynton Dawson at the plate to keep it a 3-2 Wildcat advantage.
U of A then exploded for seven more runs over the next two innings to seal the game and take the opener in the series.
RUNDOWN
Arizona struck first in the opening inning, using a leadoff single and stolen base from Regan Shockey before Tayler Biehl drove in the game's first run with an RBI single to center.
Baylor answered in the second inning as Kaygen Marshall blasted a solo home run to deep left field, tying the game at one.
The Wildcats regained the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly from Sydney Stewart, and added another run in the fourth on a solo home run by Kez Lucas to make it 3-1.
Baylor trimmed the deficit in the fifth as Amber Toven worked a walk before Leah Cran delivered an RBI single up the middle to score the senior. Karynton Dawson nearly tied the game right behind Toven, but was cut down at the plate to limit the Bears to a one-run inning.
The Wildcats added two more runs in the sixth on RBI hits from Tele Jennings and Duke to set the final margin at 10–2.
