Jorgensen and Reid earn MOP nods
FRESNO, Calif. – The 10th-ranked Baylor equestrian team was unable to best No. 8 Fresno State, falling 11-8 on the road on Saturday afternoon at the Student Horse Student in Fresno, Calif.
The Bears (3-8, 2-4 Big 12) won both Flat and Fences but it wasn't enough to best the Bulldogs (7-4, 3-3 Big 12). Senior Lauren Reid posted her third MOP nod in Fences this season while senior Lauren Jorgensen received her third honor in Flat.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting the day off in Fences, Jorgensen posted an 83.5 against Fresno State's 61 to win her point and finish the regular season slate undefeated in Big 12 action in Fences with a 6-0 record. Senior Emma Covarrubias rode for a 78 to best her opponent's 64 and MOP Reid earned her point 84.5-80.5. The Bears won the event 3-2.
In Horsemanship, freshman Taylor Eller rode for a career high of 73 but was just shy of Fresno State's 73.75 to win her point. Junior Carley Rutledge tied with the Bulldogs at 74.5-74.5 for no point to be awarded. Senior Anna Thron rode for a 66.25, which was enough to upend Fresno State's 64.75 to earn the sole point for the green and gold. Fresno State won the event 3-1.
Entering halftime, the Bulldogs had a 5-4 lead going into Flat and Horsemanship.
In Flat, MOP Jorgensen earned an event high of 84 to beat her opponent's 81. Reid was able to topple Fresno State's 79 with an 83. McCarthy closed out the event, earning a 78 to upend the Bulldogs 72 to win a point for Baylor. BU won the event 3-2.
Ending the meet in Reining, sophomore Isabelle Hildebrandt was just shy of besting her opponent, falling 71.25-71. Sophomore Sadie Peters earned the Bears' sole point, besting her opponent 70.75-70.25. The Bulldogs won the event 4-1 and took the meet 11-8.
