ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 34 and sixth-seeded Baylor (13-9) fell to No. 23 and third-seeded TCU (18-4) 4-1 on Thursday at the USTA National Campus.
Baylor secured its sole point with a victory at the No. 2 singles position. TCU clinched the match by winning both completed doubles matches and securing singles victories on courts 3, 4, and 5.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor dropped the doubles point after the Horned Frogs secured victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of Na Dong and Luna Ivkovic fell 6-4 to Raquel Caballero Chica and Jennifer Jackson, while Kennedy Gibbs and Zuzanna Kubacha were defeated 6-2 by Cayetana Gay and Tomi Main at No. 3 doubles.
The match at No. 1 doubles, featuring Alian Zack and Gabrielle Villegas, was left unfinished with a score of 4-3 in favor of TCU's Victorio Gomez O'Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai.
In singles play, Kubacha provided the Bears' lone point with a decisive 6-0, 6-3 victory over Tsai at No. 2 singles.
TCU extended its lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win by Jackson against Ivkovic at No. 5 singles. At No. 3 singles, Cristi Ramos Sierra defeated Mu-Jie Tzeng 6-4, 7-5, adding another point for TCU.
The match concluded with Gomez O'Hayon winning a tightly contested three-set match over Zack 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
Matches involving Dong at No. 1 singles and Villegas at No. 6 singles were left unfinished, with Dong trailing against Caballero Chica and Villegas battling Gay.
