Armstrong hit .500 with two home runs and six RBIs on the week
IRVING, Texas – Baylor baseball redshirt senior first baseman Tyce Armstrong has been named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.
Armstrong led the Bears with nine hits on the week and batted .500 with two home runs and six RBIs, logging knocks in each of BU's four games against UTSA and TCU.
On Tuesday night against the Roadrunners, Armstrong crushed two homers for his third multi-home run game of the season, including a game-tying blast in the bottom of the 12th inning that helped BU to a thrilling 10-9 walk-off win over UTSA. For the night, he went 3-for-6 with four RBIs and scored three runs.
Over the weekend against TCU, Armstrong stayed hot with another three-hit performance on Friday night and added two more RBIs with a couple of run-scoring singles. In Sunday's doubleheader, Armstrong notched three more hits across the two games and scored another run as part of his team-leading seven runs scored on the week.
This season, Armstrong has hit 14 home runs, the most by a Bear in a single season since Josh Ludy hit 16 in 2012, and now sits just two blasts shy of cracking BU's single-season home run leaderboard. Armstrong's 45 RBIs are also the most by a Bear during the Thompson Era. Both his 14 home runs (sixth) and 45 RBIs (10th) rank Armstrong inside the Big 12's top-10.
Armstrong becomes just the second Bear all-time, and first since Shea Langeliers in 2017, to win Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice in the same season.
This is Baylor's seventh weekly conference award under fourth-year head coach Mitch Thompson and BU's 20th Big 12 Newcomer of the Week all-time. Armstrong shares this week's Newcomer honors with Utah's Cal Miller, while Cincinnati's Jack Natili was named the league's Player of the Week and Arizona's Smith Bailey was tabbed the conference Pitcher of the Week.
