Bears hit three home runs and get quality start from Wallace in series-evening win
The Bears (27-26, 13-16 Big 12) racked up 14 hits, including eight for extra bases, while Wallace worked a career-high 6.1 innings on the mound and held the Utes (26-23, 12-17 Big 12) to just one run on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Redshirt junior infielder Travis Sanders homered for the third-straight game, sophomore infielder Pearson Riebock left the yard for the second-consecutive contest and fifth-year senior outfielder Ty Johnson went deep for the first time this season to lead BU's offensive onslaught. Five Bears logged multi-hit performances, including Riebock who had a career-high four knocks.
THE RUNDOWN
Right from the jump, Baylor had its bats going as Sanders stayed hot with his third home run in as many games to lead things off, crushing the second pitch of the night 464 feet over right-center wall. In the second, back-to-back two-out doubles by redshirt sophomore catcher Brayden Buchanan and Riebock made it 2-0, and BU threatened for more in the third following freshman outfielder Brady Janusek's two-out triple, but he'd be left there.
Wallace got the start for the Bears and was sharp in the early innings, fanning three and putting up three zeros to begin his outing. Utah got on the board in the fourth as Baylor traded a run for two outs with a 6-4-3 double play after the Utes put runners on the corners with nobody out to start the frame.
BU got that run back, plus another, in the top of the fifth as Riebock launched his third home run of the season, a solo shot, and an RBI groundout by Janusek made it 4-1 in favor of the green and gold. Wallace worked out of a UU threat in the home half to leave a pair of baserunners on after a redshirt senior first baseman Tyce Armstrong snared a sharp line drive that looked headed for extra bases to end the inning.
Baylor's offense kept rolling in the sixth as Johnson left the yard for his first of the year. After a Buchanan single and Riebock's third extra-base hit of the night, a sacrifice fly from freshman infielder Cole Lanclos pushed the lead to 6-1.
In the home half, Utah saw its first two batters reach on a single and a walk. But after a mound visit, Wallace got back-to-back flyouts to left field where freshman outfielder Dylan Perez did well to shield the sun and make tough grabs. Then, Wallace finished off the frame with his fourth strikeout of the night to strand more Utes, their third and fourth left on of the night.
Wallace stayed out there to start the bottom of the seventh and recorded his fifth strikeout of the evening after a leadoff double, then exited following a career-high 6.1 innings of work and handed the ball off to senior southpaw Stefan Stahl. Stahl fanned the first batter he faced in his first appearance on the mound in over a month, then brought BU back to the plate where the Bears pushed across three more in the eighth with RBIs from Janusek, Perez and Clements.
A two-run single from Utah in the bottom of the eighth didn't do much to dent the scoreline, then neither side scored in the ninth as Baylor finished off the series-evening victory.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Mitch Thompson
On the offensive performance tonight…
"It's been great to see Pearson [Riebock] swinging the bat. Ty Johnson with a big home run. Travis Sanders led off the game with a home run, that was huge for us. Second pitch of the game and Bears are ahead 1-0. We never trailed, so it was a great way to start the day. Up and down the lineup our guys swung the bats well, seven of our nine guys drove in runs and everybody scored. Everybody contributed."
Sophomore RHP Zack Wallace
On his career-high 6.1 innings on the mound…
"Definitely not easy [bouncing back from last week's rough start], we're playing great teams every week. It was just trying to flush that outing, stick to my routine and stick to my stuff for this week. And that's what I did, came out and gave it all I had."
Sophomore INF Pearson Riebock
On his career-high four-hit performance…
"It felt really good. DT [Darin Thomas] gave me a little word of advice yesterday before BP and first swing with it, I hit a home run. So I told him I'm going to stick with it and I had a good night, so all credit to DT. Every day I'm working really hard, I'm trying my hardest to be great out there. Sometimes it just doesn't go that way, so just gotta stick with it, keep my head down and keep working hard."
