
WT Dominates Doubles but Falls Short at No. 3 Texas A&M, 4-1

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 37 Baylor (14-10) fell to No. 3 Texas A&M (24-5) with a final score of 4-1 on Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The Bears secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, marking their 14th clinched doubles point of the year. However, the Aggies swept the singles matches, clinching the win with straight-set victories on courts 1, 2, 3, and 6.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor secured the doubles point with decisive victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Gabrielle Villegas and Alian Zack overcame the No. 35-ranked pair of Violeta Martinez and Ilinca Amariei from Texas A&M, posting a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Na Dong and Kennedy Gibbs delivered a commanding 6-0 victory against Lexington Reed and Daria Smetannikov.
The match at No. 1 doubles, featuring Zuzanna Kubacha and Neda Rahimkhani against the No. 11-ranked Mia Kupres and Lucciana Perez, was left unfinished with Baylor leading 4-3.
In singles play, Texas A&M quickly turned the tide. No. 98 Daria Smetannikov defeated Luna Ivkovic 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to even the score.
Texas A&M continued its momentum at No. 2 singles, where Mia Kupres, ranked No. 50, secured a 6-1, 6-4 win over Baylor's No. 75-ranked Dong. Lucciana Perez, ranked No. 1 in the nation, extended Texas A&M's lead with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over No. 83-ranked Kubacha at No. 1 singles.
The Aggies clinched their win at No. 3 singles, with Ilinca Amariei, ranked No. 71, defeating Gibbs 6-4, 6-2.
Mu-Jie Tzeng claimed the Bears' lone singles set of the afternoon and was up in the third, 3-6, 6-1, 2-0, when the match went complete.
