Prince Wins 110M Hurdles at Commonwealth Games

Rising Baylor senior clocks 13.17 time to beat British champ, Cyprus Olympian
GLASGOW, Scotland – In what has been a summer to remember, rising Baylor senior Demario Prince won the 110-meter hurdles title at the Commonwealth Games on Monday at Scotstoun Stadium, blowing away the field with a time of 13.17 seconds.
The Jamaican champion and bronze medalist at the Prefontaine Classic, Prince was second in his heat and ran the third-fastest time overall in the opening round (13.27) before winning the final by more than a tenth of a second over British champion Sam Bennett of Texas Tech (13.30) and Olympian Milan Trajkovic of Cyprus (13.32).
An NCAA indoor and outdoor All-American in the sprint hurdles, Prince broke his own school record earlier this month when he finished third at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore., with a blistering time of 13.01.
At the Jamaican Championships back in June, Prince won with a then season-best time of 13.13 seconds to beat Arkansas' Jerome Campbell, who finished sixth in Monday's final of the Commonwealth Games. He also finished seventh at a Diamond League meet in London nine days ago, clocking a 13.27 time.
A quadrennial international multi-sport event, the Commonwealth Games brings together athletes from across the Commonwealth of Nations, which includes the majority of former territories of the British Empire. It started in 1930 as the British Empire Games.
Former Baylor All-American and 2025 Bowerman Award finalist Nathaniel Ezekiel is representing Nigeria and will compete in the 400-meter hurdles, with the semifinals on Wednesday and final on Friday.
This past weekend, Baylor grad Tenly Kuhn finished tied for sixth in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 14-3.25, while 2021 NCAA Indoor champion KC Lightfoot was fourth in the men's pole vault at 18-9.25.
Three-time All-American Tiriah Kelley missed qualifying for the finals of the 200 meters by seven hundredths of a second, finishing 11th in 23.25 seconds. Baylor grad Laurenz Colbert and rising junior Malik Franklin competed in the 200 and 400 meters, respectively.
