Bears suffer first loss of the season

WACO, Texas – No. 6 Baylor soccer (2-1) recorded its first loss of the season, falling 3-1 to Texas State (3-0-1) on Sunday night at Betty Lou Mays Field.

Both squads traded goals in the first two minutes, with the Bears facing their first deficit of the 2026 season early.

Matsuri Tsutsui connected in the second minute off a BU turnover before the Bears responded just 10 seconds later. Lauren Omholt's equalizer caught Olivia Hess' assist off the kickoff to tie the match up at 1-1.

After halftime, Texas State's Helen Alormenu scored the Bobcats second goal of the night in the 56th minute before extending the lead with a brace in the 72nd minute.

BU led with 16 shots on the night, five of which were matched on-goal from the Bobcats. Baylor had a season high eight corner kicks, while Texas State booked three yellow cards, with one added for BU's Aryanna Jimison.

Baylor takes a trip south on I-35 to face Texas on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on SEC Network.
