SOC’s Azul Alvarez Dubbed Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Baylor's netminder Azul Alvarez was named the Big 12's Goalkeeper of the Week after a two-win weekend to close non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon. The senior recorded a combined six saves against Marquette and Oral Roberts, tied for the league lead on the week with K-State's Maddie Sibbing, en route to 1-0 and 2-1 wins, respectively. Her clean sheet against Marquette was the second of the season.

The honor is the third of Alvarez's career and the seventh goalkeeper-specific since the criteria were added ahead of the 2020-21 season.

The Big 12 also named Hope Leyba from Colorado the Offensive Player of the Week, Eleanor Hays from Texas Tech the Defensive Player of the Week and Amy Medley from Arizona State the Freshman of the Week.

Baylor wrapped up its non-conference schedule with seven wins, the most ahead of conference play in the Michelle Lenard era and the most since 2018. BU will open the Big 12 slate Friday evening at West Virginia, with first touch planned for 6 p.m. CT.
