Aggie Opener Results
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Opening the season with a pair of top-10 individual finishes, the Baylor women's cross country team placed third and the men fourth at Friday night's Aggie Opener at the Watts Cross Country Course.
Junior Ella Perry led the way for the women, finishing ninth in the two-mile run with a time of 11 minutes, 13.2 seconds. Sophomore Eva Jacobsen was 12th at 11:17.7, followed by senior Mackenize Browne (19th, 11:32.6), freshman Jenna Jacobsen (25th, 11:47.5) and sophomore Rickeisha Simms (27th, 11:48.2).
The host Texas A&M squad won the team race with 34 points, Houston was second with 42 and the Bears were third with 88.
Finishing in the No. 1 spot for the Bears for the eighth-consecutive meet, junior Jack Sterrett placed 10th in the men's 5K race with a time of 15:43.5. Seniors Nolan Keenan and Straton Miller were 13th and 15th, respectively, followed by senior Ben Archer (29th) and junior Caden Biltz (31st).
The Aggies also won the men's race with 33 points, followed by Houston (38), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (77) and Baylor (97).
"I thought both teams did a good job positioning themselves early in the race," head coach David Barnett said, "and the top three finishers (on both sides) all had quality finishes. As a whole, I was pleased, and I'm excited to see the momentum for both teams continue to build as we move forward in the season."
The women were shorthanded, with junior Ruth Kimeli and Eastern Kentucky transfer Khadijah Ennasri both held out of the season-opening meet.
Next week, both teams will be back in action at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday, Sept. 11, back at the Watts Course.
