ALL-AMERICAN AND MORE - Bill Glass, a member of the BU Class of 1957 and an All-American lineman, who had a distinguished career in the National Football League, will be presented as a Distinguished Baylor Alumnus on Jan. 31. After playing for a total of 12 years with Cleveland, Detroit and Cincinnati, he started the Bill Glass Ministries in 1969. Now called Champions for Life, the organization conducts crusades inside prisons across the country. Other 2003 Distinguished Alumni include Dr. Kenneth Carlile (1969), co-chairman of the Carlile Corporation; Dr. Gary Cook (1972), president of Dallas Baptist University; and Dr. Barbara Montgomery Dossey (1965), director of Holistic Nursing Consultants. The alumni dinner will be held on the evening of Jan. 31 in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center. BU-OU WEEKEND - The Bear Foundation has invited former Baylor basketball players to come to Waco Friday (Jan. 24) for a two-day reunion and a chance to see the 2003 Baylor teams meet Oklahoma. After a tour of athletic facilities on Friday afternoon, former players will be invited to attend team workouts at Ferrell Center. On Saturday the activities include a 12:30 p.m. luncheon in the "B" Association Room, followed by the Baylor men's game against Oklahoma at 5 p.m. And those choosing to stay over on Sunday can catch the Lady Bears in their 2 p.m. game against Oklahoma . . . The Baylor-Oklahoma weekend also has been designated as Alumni Days. On Saturday Baylor alums are invited to attend a 3:30 p.m. reception at the Hughes-Dillard Alumni Center, where they can pick up tickets, purchase box lunches, hear a scouting report and qualify for door prizes prior BU's early-evening game against the Sooner men. A similar promotion is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the alumni center. Game tickets cost $9 and box lunches are priced at $7. ASTROS CLASSIC TIME - Letter winner Chip Hubbard of Houston reminds all that the 2003 Baseball Bears will participate in the 3rd annual Astros College Classic at Houston's Minute Maid Stadium on Feb 14-16. As occurred last year, the Baylor "B" Association and some of its individual members will host Coach Steve Smith's team at a 4 p.m. dinner on Saturday (Feb. 15) prior to Baylor's 7 p.m. game against Rice. The function will be held at the downtown Houston Center Club, not far from the ballpark. Meal tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children and parking will be free. The Classic, sponsored by the Houston Astros and The Houston Chronicle, each year features many of the teams that once competed in the Southwest Conference. Other BU games during the three-day event will include meetings with the University of Houston (3 p.m. on Feb. 14) and Louisiana University at Lafayette (3 p.m. on Feb. 16) . . .
