WACO, Texas -
Baylor has been named as the host school for four Big 12 Conference championships over the next four years. The Bears will host the 2005 Big 12 Conference Cross Country Championships, the 2006 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Field Championships, the 2006 Big 12 Men's and Women's Tennis Championships and the 2007 Big 12 Women's Golf Championships.
"We are proud to be able to continue a tradition of hosting championship events such as these," Baylor Director of Athletics Tom Stanton said. "We look forward to serving the Big 12 as host of these events in the same quality manner in which we have hosted recent conference and NCAA events."
In 2005, Baylor will host the Big 12 Conference Cross Country Championships for the first time in program history. Last fall, the Bears served as host for the NCAA South Central Regional. The site for the conference cross country meet has not yet been determined.
Baylor's Hart-Patterson Track and Field Complex will welcome the league's outdoor meet for the third time in 2006; the Bears also served as host for the Big 12 Conference Outdoor Championships in 1997 and 1999. Before the creation of the Big 12, the Hart-Patterson complex was the site of the 1960, 1976, 1980 and 1989 Southwest Conference meets.
Baylor Tennis Center will again be the site of the Big 12 Men's and Women's Tennis Championships in 2006. The center opened in April 2001, just in time to host that season's conference championships. Baylor Tennis Center has also served as a host site for the 2001 NCAA Women's Tennis Regional Championship.
In 2007, Bear Ridge Golf Club will be the home for the Big 12 Women's Golf Championships. The course, the longest in the state, saw its first tournament action last October as the Bear men hosted the 2002 Baylor Invitational.
In addition to the events mentioned above, Baylor has hosted a number of NCAA championships since the formation of the Big 12. Among the events: NCAA Baseball Regionals in 1999 and 2000, an NCAA Baseball Super Regional in 1999, NCAA Women's Basketball first- and second-round action in 2002, NCAA Men's Tennis first- and second- round matches in 2000, and an NCAA Women's Soccer second round game in 1998.
