JENNINGS IN HOUSTON - Folks who want to see former Baylor pitching ace Jason Jennings in action should be at Minute Maid Park in Houston April 1-3 for the Astros' season-opening series with the Colorado Rockies. However, at this point no one knows which game Jennings - the Rockies' National League Rookie of the Year - will pitch. As No. 2 behind Denny Neagle in the Rockies pitching rotation, Jennings would be expected to take the mound in the second game of the series. However, with Neagle currently suffering elbow problems, Jennings may see action in the opening-day game. The Astros meet Colorado at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at 7:05 p.m. on April 2 and at 1:05 p.m. on April 3 . . . Speaking of Minute Maid Park, don't look for the Baylor Bears to be there for the 4th annual Astros College Classic next January. The reason: Big 12 teams have an agreement not to meet in pre-season action. So, Texas A&M, Texas, Texas Tech and Baylor are taking turns abstaining from the round-robin tournament, thus allowing schedule makers to maintain their sanity . . . Dutch Schroeder, the "B" Association executive vice-president emeritus, is busy these days sending hand-written notes to letter winners in the Houston area in appreciation for their financial support in hosting a February 13 dinner for the Bears baseball team and coaches. The event at the Metropolitan Club in downtown Houston took place during the aforementioned College Classic. Nice gesture from a nice man . . .
