WACO, Texas -
Baylor announced Wednesday the hiring of John Williams Jr. as its new director of strength and conditioning. Williams, who has worked with more than 15 different sports at the collegiate level during stints at North Carolina and Oklahoma State, will oversee Baylor's overall strength and conditioning program.
A 1995 graduate of North Carolina A&T, Williams has spent four of the last five years as an assistant strength coach at North Carolina. During his time in Chapel Hill, and in his one year at Oklahoma State, he worked with a number of different men's and women's sports.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to work with the student-athletes and coaches at Baylor," Williams said. "The facilities are first class in every way. I'm ready to get to work and make a positive impact for Baylor University."
While at UNC, Williams organized and conducted strength and speed camps and clinics for high school teams. He also was responsible for coordinating the Tar Heel's pro day, which gave NFL scouts a comprehensive look at UNC's draft-eligible student-athletes.
"We found John to be a very bright and impressive young man during the interview process," Athletic Director Tom Stanton said. "John will work very well with our student-athletes and push them to be the very best they can be in their training."
