Parrish Leaving Baylor

WACO, Texas - After 20 years of dedicated service to the Baylor athletic department, Maxey Parrish has resigned to take a position with Rivals.com, a sports-related internet company that hosts some 400 websites.?

Parrish, who will continue to reside in Waco, becomes director of university relations for the Seattle-based company effective Jan. 2.

Parrish, a Waco native and 1978 Baylor graduate, was Baylor's sports information director from 1982-1997, when he left that post to become executive director of BaylorSportsNet.com, the athletic department's web site.

"It was a difficult decision to leave Baylor," said Parrish, "but I've been given a wonderful opportunity with Rivals.com.? This is the leading sports-related internet website company in the country and I'm thrilled to be a part of its future."

After receiving his Journalism degree from Baylor in 1978, Parrish spent two years as an assistant SID at SMU and served a brief stint as SID at Centenary before returning to Baylor in 1980 as assistant SID.

Parrish has received numerous professional honors and has won several publication awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).? He has also worked on numerous CoSIDA boards and served as the organization's president in 1998-99.

Parrish has worked in media relations at such events as the Olympics, the NCAA Final Four and the Cotton Bowl.? He has also served on the board of the Football Writers Association of America for the past two years.

"Maxey Parrish will always be a part of the Baylor family," said Athletic Director Tom Stanton.? "We wish him only the best in his new endeavor."

"Maxey is a shining example of professionalism for all of us in the college athletics," said Scott Stricklin, Baylor's director of athletic media relations.? "His accomplishments here will be a constant reminder of how this job is to be done."
