Baylor, WBAP Radio Extend Affiliate Agreement

Baylor, WBAP Radio Extend Affiliate Agreement

Sept. 17, 2001

Baylor and WBAP Radio announced Monday that they have agreed on an extension of their contract to have Baylor football and basketball games on the 50,000-watt giant. WBAP (820 AM) has been the Dallas/Fort Worth radio affiliate of Baylor athletic events since 1995.

The new agreement calls for every Baylor football game and 10 men's basketball contests to be carried by WBAP.

"We are thrilled that WBAP will be continuing our relationship with Baylor University," Bob Shomper, WBAP Operations Manager, said. "Baylor's dedication to our young people goes way beyond athletics, as evidenced by the moral and intellectual atmosphere of the Baylor campus, as well as the outstanding graduation rate of it's student athletes.

"Baylor is a quality institution and deserves to be on a quality radio station like WBAP."

Baylor Athletics Director Tom Stanton said that the deal with WBAP fits into the school's long-term marketing strategy.

"WBAP is recognized as an industry leader," Stanton said. "Baylor's seven-year affiliation with WBAP has been a huge boon in our goal of reaching out to as many people as possible with our athletic programs. And with the excitement being generated by Baylor athletics, we feel this can be a beneficial situation for both Baylor and WBAP for many years to come."
