Good News About an Old Teammate

Good News About an Old Teammate

Oct. 24, 2001

WACO, Texas - Dallas insurance executive Jim Evans, who lettered in both football (1957-'60) and baseball (1958) at Baylor, dropped by the "B" Association Lounge prior to the New Mexico game and was happily telling friends about an old Leveretts Chapel High School teammate who survived the terrorist attack on the Pentagon.

Jerry Henson, according to Evans, is believed to be the last person rescued from the crash site. A graduate of Texas A&M and a former U. S. Navy pilot, Henson was working in the Pentagon as a consultant when the Sept. 11 tragedy occurred. Evans said Henson is now out of the hospital and doing well. His ordeal was the subject of a recent NBC Dateline program.

Evans, who officiated in both the Southwest Conference and the Big 12 Conference for 30 years, now attends all Baylor home football games as a technical advisor to Big 12 Conference officials, presiding over pre-game meetings and post-game evaluations.
