Baylor Athletes Help Food for Families

Nov. 25, 2003

WACO, Texas - Baylor athletes from the men's and women's tennis, football, women's golf and volleyball programs participated in Food for Families on Friday, helping once again to make the event a success.

Baylor athletes worked from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the KWTX Channel 10 food drop site. Various duties included unloading trucks, sorting food and lifting packed boxes on to crates for delivery.

Elly Morrison, site director and Boy Scouts of America troop leader, was pleased with the turnout and the athletes' help.

"These guys have been lifting heavy things and making so much progress, she said. "We could not have done this without them."

The Army National Guard, KWTX, HEB and Boy Scouts of America sponsor Food for Families. The event raised more than one million pounds of food for the Capital Area Food Bank, the Salvation Army and Caritas. The Salvation Army and Caritas will distribute the food to needy families across central Texas.

Food for Families is just one of many programs athletes participate in to give back to the Waco community.
