Baylor Athletes to Participate in Santa's Workshop

Dec. 1, 2003

WACO, Texas - Baylor student-athletes will help needy area children celebrate Christmas this Friday as they participate in Santa's Workshop.

Baylor student-athletes will work from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the McLane Student Life Center on the Baylor University campus, distributing toys to about 1,000 local Headstart preschoolers.

Baylor University sponsors the Christmas event each year, which begins with a four-week long toy drive. The toys are collected, wrapped and distributed to children who might not otherwise have a happy Christmas. The children even enjoy candy goody bags and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Jessica Truglio, Baylor University's community relations coordinator, is excited about the event, but says they are still in need of toys.

"We are low on toys for this year," she said "and since we are expecting so many kids, we would really like to have some more donations."

Toys can still be dropped off at the Bill Daniel Student Center. The deadline is Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Santa's Workshop is just one of many programs athletes participate in to give back to the Waco community.
