Mascots | Bruiser & Marigold

Bruiser & Marigold are iconic characters proudly donning the Green and Gold on the sidelines and competitively. The tradition began when Baylor chose the Bear instead of the ever-popular bookworm to represent the school as its official mascot in 1914. The start of Baylor's costumed bear began in 1981 with the introduction of the original brown bear. The bear costumes have changed over the years with a few notable transitions in 1990 with the introduction of the green bear and again in the late 2000’s with the introduction of new brown bear Bruiser. The Bear tradition continued with the introduction of Marigold Bear during the 2017 football season. In 2019, with a university re-brand, Bruiser & Marigold got a minor touch-up and continue to rock the sidelines today. Bruiser & Marigold bring school spirit and entertain Baylor fans young and old across the United States and as far as Shanghai, China. The mascots are maintained by the Mascot Sic’urity team who proudly keep Bruiser & Marigold in tip top shape.

Bruiser, Marigold and the Mascot Sic’urity team competed in their first national competition in the spring of 2021. Marigold brought home the championship in the D1A division and Bruiser finished second. Both competed with the Songleaders in the D1A Spirit Showdown division securing a 1st place ranking at the Dance Team Union College Classic Virtual Competition. Bruiser & Marigold returned to the D1A mascot competition in 2022 and Marigold again brought home the national championship title, Bruiser brought home third. In 2023, Marigold won her third national championship while Bruiser finished second by a tenth of a point. In 2024, Bruiser and Marigold partnered together to bring home another national championship. In 2025, Marigold won 3rd place, and Bruiser brought home his first solo national title.
