David Orloff is Baylor's assistant nickels coach in 2026. He was announced in his role on Jan. 9, 2026.
Orloff joins the Baylor staff as the assistant nickels coach after working the last five years as a member of the Kansas State coaching staff, including the 2025 season as the outside linebackers coach. He previously spent four seasons as a defensive analyst on the K-State team.
Orloff re-joins his defensive coordinator at Kansas State, Joe Klanderman, in the same role he held in 2025 for K-State. He will work directly with the Baylor nickels.
Orloff previously coached for three seasons at Syracuse, his first two seasons as a graduate assistant and the final season as a Quality Control Coach. He opened his career as a graduate assistant at UNLV from 2015-17.
Orloff helped coach a Kansas State team in 2025 that ranked No. 27 in defensive efficiency rating, its fifth consecutive top-30 finish in that category. The Cats ranked among the nation’s leaders in several categories in 2025, including fumble recoveries (second), turnovers gained (fourth), defensive TDs (10th), interceptions (20th), passing efficiency defense (32nd) and sacks (39th).
Over his time at K-State, the Wildcats have ranked in the nation’s top 30 in defensive efficiency rating, including 27th in 2025, 24th in 2024, 16th in 2023, 14th in 2022 and 21st in 2021.
The Wildcats ranked in the top four in scoring defense in the Big 12 four different times while Orloff was on the staff, leading the league in defensive efficiency in 2022, the year K-State won the Big 12. Over the last four seasons, K-State has forced a league-high 88 turnovers, and allowed only 23.1 points per game, which ranked second in that span.
During his first year in Manhattan, Orloff helped K-State allow 21.0 points per game – a 12.2-point difference from the year prior – to rank as its best mark since 2003 and 23rd nationally during the 2021 season. Also, the Wildcats surrendered their fewest yards allowed per game since 2009 (344.7), which included 129.5 rushing yards per game to stand as the best effort in four years.
Orloff came to Kansas State after working the previous three seasons at Syracuse as a graduate assistant working with the linebackers, while he later was a quality control coach for the Orange.
Working with the Syracuse defense – including the 2018 and 2019 seasons – Orloff helped Syracuse finish third in the nation in takeaways in 2018 as Syracuse earned a 10-3 record and a victory in the Camping World Bowl.
He went to New York after spending the three seasons prior as a defensive and special teams graduate assistant at UNLV.
A native of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Orloff earned his undergraduate degree from San Jose State in 2015 as he was an offensive undergraduate assistant for the Spartans for five seasons. He also has master’s degrees from both UNLV (special education) and Syracuse (instructional design).
Orloff and his wife, Ainsley, have two children, Emery and Kaylin.
