Kenny Boyd serves Baylor Athletics as Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director of Student-Athlete Services, promoted in May of 2023.
Boyd previously served as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health and Wellness, promoted in 2017.
The then-newly created position pushed Baylor to the forefront nationally in the area of student-athlete wellness and care. In the innovative role, Boyd oversees the execution and expansion of athletics performance, applied performance, sports medicine, physical therapy, nutrition and mental health programs. By placing these areas under the direction of one individual, Baylor is able to enhance the student-athlete well-being experience across all 19 athletics programs.
Boyd spent the previous three years at North Carolina as the head athletic trainer for the football program. While serving as a member of the Executive Sports Medicine Staff Committee, he worked to develop and revise concussion management, emergency action and heat illness policies. Boyd’s work as a preceptor for CAATE, NCAA-Department of Defense Concussion Assessment, Research and Education Consortium (CARE) and creation and implementation of a Fusionetics movement efficiency program helped him earn Athletic Trainer of the Year recognition by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association in June 2015.
Before North Carolina, Boyd served as an associate athletic trainer at Texas for 11 years. As the head football athletic trainer, he provided care for Longhorn student-athletes and facilitated institutional, conference and NCAA drug testing. Boyd coordinated a lecture series for sports medicine continuing education and served as a guest lecturer and approved preceptor for CAATE.
Boyd also worked on sports medicine staffs at Colorado, Mississippi State and Northwestern. While with the Buffs, he worked with men’s basketball, football, golf and tennis programs and served as the student program coordinator.
Boyd earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences specializing in Athletic Training from the University of Florida in 1998 and a Master of Science in Sport Administration from Mississippi State in 2000. While pursuing his master’s degree, Boyd served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the football team and coordinated rehab with the team’s physical therapist.
Boyd is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, where he has served on several professional committees. Highly regarded as a leader in the profession, he presents at symposiums and offers certification courses often.
Boyd, who grew up in Pensacola, Fla., and his wife, Ellen, have three children, Taylor, Macy and Owen.
