RAY BERRY, Abilene, Texas (Football, 1983-86) – 2005

The backbone of a Baylor defense that helped the Bears make three bowl appearances in four years, Berry finished his standout career by earning MVP honors in a 21-9 victory over Colorado in the 1986 Bluebonnet Bowl.

A two-time All-Southwest Conference pick (1985-86) who was named to Dave Campbell’s Top 50 Baylor players of the 20^th century, Berry still ranks among the school’s all-time leaders in total tackles (No. 3, 380), solo tackles (No. 3, 231) and assisted tackles (No. 4, 149). As a sophomore, he was named the Sports Illustrated College Football Defensive Player of the Week after making a game-saving interception to preserve the Bears’ 20-13 upset of second-ranked USC.

The Abilene, Texas, native was drafted in the second round (44^th overall pick) by the Minnesota Vikings in 1987 and played seven years in the NFL, finishing his career with Seattle in 1993. At Abilene Cooper High School, he was a Parade magazine All-American in 1982.
