A two-time All-Southwest Conference pick (1985-86) who was named to Dave Campbell’s Top 50 Baylor players of the 20th century, Berry still ranks among the school’s all-time leaders in total tackles (No. 3, 380), solo tackles (No. 3, 231) and assisted tackles (No. 4, 149). As a sophomore, he was named the Sports Illustrated College Football Defensive Player of the Week after making a game-saving interception to preserve the Bears’ 20-13 upset of second-ranked USC.
The Abilene, Texas, native was drafted in the second round (44th overall pick) by the Minnesota Vikings in 1987 and played seven years in the NFL, finishing his career with Seattle in 1993. At Abilene Cooper High School, he was a Parade magazine All-American in 1982.
