- Induction:
- 2017
- Class:
- 2005
STEFFANIE BLACKMON, Dallas, Texas (Basketball, 2001-05) – 2017
After three straight heartbreaking endings, Blackmon capped off her Baylor career in the best possible way, scoring 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the Lady Bears’ 84-62 win over Michigan State in the 2005 national championship game.
Blackmon finished her career with 1,955 points and 936 rebounds, just shy of the elite 2,000/1,000 club, and set the program record with 159 blocks, a mark that now ranks sixth all-time. As a senior, when she earned third-team All-America honors and her third straight All-Big 12 recognition, Blackmon averaged 15.4 points and 7.9 rebounds on that national championship squad and earned Big 12 and Final Four all-tournament honors.
Drafted in the third round by the WNBA’s Seattle Storm, Blackmon played overseas in Korea, Italy and Israel before retiring as a player and returning to Dallas as a teacher. Now pursuing an acting career and based in New York, Steffanie was inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame in 2014, three years before she was enshrined in the Baylor Hall of Fame.
