Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame

Terry Black
- Induction:
- 2015
- Class:
- 2011
TERRY BLACK, Milwaukee, Wisc. (Basketball, 1999-2001) – 2015
Black had a year to remember in 2017 when he was inducted into the halls of fame at Baylor, Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College and Messmer (Wisc.) High School, where he also had his jersey retired. Before coming to Baylor, he won a pair of state championships at Messmer and back-to-back NJCAA national titles at Indian Hills.
At Baylor, he earned Big 12 All-Newcomer honors as a junior and first-team All-Big 12 as a senior when he averaged 15.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals and led the Bears to their first postseason trip in 13 years. The highlight of his senior season came on Feb. 12, 2001, when the 6-5 forward had six dunks, scored 20 points and added six rebounds and four steals in an 85-77 upset of sixth-ranked Kansas.
Although he played just two seasons at Baylor, he made an obvious impact and still holds the career record with 2.55 steals per game. He also ranks fourth in career field goal percentage (.591) and ninth in career rebounding average (8.1).
In 2006, Black was named to Baylor’s 17-player All-Centennial team that included Vinnie Johnson and Terry Teagle. After his collegiate career, Black played eight years of pro basketball overseas with stops in Italy, Germany South Korea and Finland.
