BEST START SINCE...
At 5-0, the Lady Bears are off to their best start since the 1991-92 season. The `91-92 campaign began with six wins before dropping a game to Oklahoma, 111-72. Twice, 1974-75 and 1980-81, the Lady Bears posted 9-0 records to start the season.
RECEIVING VOTES...
The Lady Bears received nine votes in this week's AP Poll. The Baylor has never been ranked in the top 25 but have received votes during the 1997-98 season and at the beginning of the 1998-99 campaign.
BAYLOR LADY BEARS...
The Lady Bears extended their perfect record to 5-0 on Sunday by defeating Air Force, 78-53, in the Baylor's fourth road game of the season.
For the fourth time in five games and the fourth straight game everyone saw action.
Danielle Crockrom (Houston/North Shore HS) recorded her third straight double-double with a team-leading 22 points and 13 rebounds. She was an impressive 10-for-15 from the floor. Sheila Lambert (Seattle/Grayson CC/Chief Stealth HS) scored 19 points while Brooke McCormack (Melbourne, Australia/Grayson CC) came off the bench to score 12 points and haul down seven rebounds in her finest effort of the season. Post Monica Arnold (Austin/Johnston HS) added 10 points.
ON THE SEASON...
Baylor's leader, five games into the season, is Sheila Lambert. The Seattle native is averaging 21.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 5.7 assists a game.
Danielle Crockrom for the first time this season has reached the double-digit mark in season scoring and rebounding. Crockrom, a 6-2 forward, checks in at 18.2 points and a team-leading 10.4 rebounds while Arnold, a 6-2 post, tallies 10.4 points and 6.6 boards. In addition, Crockrom leads the squad in field goal percentage with a mark of .638 (37-58).
IN THE BIG 12...
As individuals and as a team, Baylor ranks at the top of the Big 12 in several categories:
Team: #1 in scoring (88.6), #1 in scoring defense (53.6), #1 in scoring margin (+35), #1 in field goal defense (.312),#1 in rebounding offense (52.0), #1 in rebounding margin (+17.2) #1 in turnover margin (+12.0), #2 in steals (15.20).
Sheila Lambert: #1 in scoring (21.0), #2 in assists (5.60), #5 in steals (3.40), #12 free throw percentage (.815) and #13 in blocked shots (0.80).
Danielle Crockrom: #1 in offensive rebounds (5.40), #3 in rebounding (10.4), #4 in field goal percentage (.638), #6 in scoring (18.2), and #8 in defensive rebounds (5.0).
Monica Arnold: #6 in blocked shots (1.40), #12 in field goal percentage (.564), #13 in rebounding (6.6) and #28 in scoring (10.4).
Nicole Collins: #7 in steals.
Hilary Akromis: #7 in 3-point field goal percentage (.556).
A LOOK AHEAD...
After a brief, one game, appearance in the Ferrell Center Baylor will then head to Colorado for two games, playing Air Force on Dec. 3 and Denver University on Dec. 5. Then it's back to the friendly confines of the Ferrell Center for six straight games starting with Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Dec. 9.
THE OPPOSITION...
Denver University Pioneers
The Pioneers, in their second season in the Sun Belt Conference, are 3-2 on the season with both losses coming at the hands of the Texas Longhorns (78-74 & 96-60). They have posted wins over Air Force (76-44), Albany (88-57) and Minnesota (77-59).
They are led on the season by 6-3 senior forward Michaela Pavlickova's 16.4 points and 7.6 rebounds a game. Junior point guard Nikki Weddle checks in at 13.6 points while guard Melissa Garcia scores 12.8 a game.
Denver is coached by Pam Tanner. Tanner is in her sixth season as head coach of the Pioneers. They posted a 16-11 record last season and were 10-6 in the Sun Belt Conference. Tanner was named the Sun Belt's Coach of the Year. Her career record is 75-65.
SERIES RECORD...
This will be the first meeting between Baylor and Denver.
SOMEWHAT FAMILIAR
Even though Baylor has never played Denver, the Pioneers are familiar to Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson. As an associate head coach at Louisiana Tech last season, Mulkey-Robertson faced the Pioneers twice. The Lady Techsters posted two victories over Denver.
