BEST START SINCE...
At 6-0, the Lady Bears Have tied the program's best start since the 1991-92 season. The `91-92 campaign began with six wins before dropping a game to Oklahoma, 111-72. Twice, 1974-75 and 1980-81, the Lady Bears posted 9-0 records to start the season.
RECEIVING VOTES...
For the second consecutive week the Lady Bears received votes in the AP Poll. Last week they garnered nine votes and got 13 this week. Baylor has never been ranked in the top 25 but had received votes during the 1997-98 season and at the beginning of the 1998-99 campaign.
BAYLOR LADY BEARS...
The Lady Bears extended their perfect record to 6-0 on Tuesday by defeating Denver, 95-82, in Baylor's fifth road game of the season.
Danielle Crockrom (Houston/North Shore HS) recorded her fourth straight double-double with a team-leading and career-high 34 points and 14 rebounds. She was an impressive 13-for-17 from the floor. Sheila Lambert (Seattle/Grayson CC/Chief Stealth HS) scored a career-high 33 points. She also turned in six rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Monica Arnold (Austin/Johnston HS) recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
ON THE SEASON...
Baylor's leader, six games into the season, is Sheila Lambert. The Seattle native is averaging 23.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 5.8 assists a game.
Danielle Crockrom has reached the double-digit mark in season scoring and rebounding. Crockrom, a 6-2 forward, checks in at 20.8 points and a team-leading 11.0 rebounds while Arnold, a 6-2 post, tallies 10.7 points and 7.5 boards. In addition, Crockrom leads the squad in field goal percentage with a mark of .667 (50-75).
NEVER BEFORE...
Never before in the history of Lady Bear basketball have two players scored 30 or more points in the same game. It happened against Denver University when Danielle Crockrom and Sheila Lambert combined for 67 points. Crockrom poured in a career-high 34 points. She was 13-of-17 from the floor (.764) and 8-of-10 (.800) from the free throw line. Lambert also tallied a career high with33 points. She popped in eight field goals and was 16-of-18 (.889) from the charity stripe.
CROCKROM CRANKING IT UP...
Over Baylor's last four games Danielle Crockrom has averaged 25.0 points and 13.3 rebounds a game. All four games have been double-doubles and all four games have seen her scored 20 points or more. In addition to those impressive marks, she has maintained a 67.2 field goal percentage over that span.
MULKEY-ROBERTSON ON THE NATIONAL SCENE...
First-year head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson is among the nation's leaders for first year coaches at 6-0. As a result, she and the program are getting some national recognition. As individuals and as a team, Baylor ranks at the top of the Big 12 in several categories:
Team: #1 in scoring (88.6), #1 in scoring defense (53.6), #1 in scoring margin (+35), #1 in field goal defense (.312),#1 in rebounding offense (52.0), #1 in rebounding margin (+17.2) #1 in turnover margin (+12.0), #2 in steals (15.20).
Sheila Lambert: #1 in scoring (21.0), #2 in assists (5.60), #5 in steals (3.40), #12 free throw percentage (.815) and #13 in blocked shots (0.80).
Danielle Crockrom: #1 in offensive rebounds (5.40), #3 in rebounding (10.4), #4 in field goal percentage (.638), #6 in scoring (18.2), and #8 in defensive rebounds (5.0).
Monica Arnold: #6 in blocked shots (1.40), #12 in field goal percentage (.564), #13 in rebounding (6.6) and #28 in scoring (10.4).
Nicole Collins: #7 in steals.
Hilary Akromis: #7 in 3-point field goal percentage (.556).
A LOOK AHEAD...
Finally, it's back to the friendly confines of the Ferrell Center. After playing five games on the road and only one at home, the Lady Bears are back to the friendly confines of the Ferrell for six straight games. They don't go back on the road until they play at Kansas on Jan. 6.
THE OPPOSITION...
Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lionettes If folks thought the Lady Bears had a rough start to their season with five of their first six games on the road, it's nothing compared to the UAPB's schedule. They will play eight games on the road before they make their first home appearance on Jan. 3. The Lionettes come into the game with an 0-6 record. They have lost to Southern Mississippi (78-57), UNLV (74-57), St. John's (73-63), Texas A&M (77-47), Boston University (87-63), and Southern Illinois (75-51).
They are led on the season by 5-6 senior guard Cherbritta Scott's 11.8 points . Sophomore post Whitney Stewart (6-0) is the squad's top rebounder with 7.0 a game. Kenya Lockhart, a 5-10 junior center, is right behind her with 6.5 boards a game.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff is coached by Kenneth Conley. Conley is in his 10th season as head coach of the Lionettes. They posted a 9-15 record last season. Conley's career record is 75-71.
SERIES RECORD...
This will be the first meeting between Baylor and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
