WACO, Texas - Baylor baseball coach Steve Smith announced Wednesday the signings of four more prospects for the 2001 season.
Giving the coach signatures were catcher Paul Richmond, outfielder Mickey Nichol, third baseman Jared Clements and second baseman/right-handed pitcher Cody Hall.
Richmond, a sophomore transfer from Navarro Junior College, hit .393 with 24 RBI in 39 games as a freshman. The 6-3, 200 pound catcher was made the all-conference team and was also member of the NJCAA all-star team. Prior to attending Navarro, Richmond earned all-district and all-state honors at Crockett High School.
Nichol is a 6-2, 205 pound outfielder from Broken Arrow, Okla. As a senior at Broken Arrow High School, he hit .419 with 26 RBI and 39 runs scored. He was an all-metro and all-conference selection in 2000 and led the team in hitting.
Clements, from China Spring, Texas, hit .505 with 38 RBI and ten home runs as a senior to help China Spring High School win the Texas 3A state championship. The 2000 3A player of the year, Clements twice earned all-state honors and was on the all-district team four times.
Hall, a Waco native, hit .436 and racked up a 2.30 ERA as a second baseman and pitcher at Connally High School. The righty posted a 9-2 record and struck out 95 batters, while walking just 36. At the plate, the 5-10, 165 pound Hall had 22 RBI and scored 47 runs.
"All these guys are exceptional players and outstanding young men. We are proud to have them join our program," said Smith.
The addition of Richmond, Nichol, Clements and Hall brings the total number of Baylor signees to nine. The Bears have already received commitments from David Murphy, Sam Hays, Trey Webb, Michael Heldoorn and Trevor Mote.
