WACO, Texas - Baylor head women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson Friday announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent.
Signing with Baylor are Sheila Lambert, Carla Mathisen and Brooke McCormack, all from Grayson County (Texas) College.
"As I said when I took the Baylor job -- we would only sign players during the late signing period if they were quality players that could make an immediate impact. These young ladies will be a great addition, they are coming from one of the elite junior college programs in the country," commented Mulkey-Robertson.
Lambert, a 5-7 guard, comes to the Lady Bear program with impressive credentials. The Seattle native is a two-time NJCAA All-American, the first two-time JUCO All-American at Grayson County. In addition, she was a two-time first team all-region selection and was twice named North Texas Conference MVP. This past season Lambert averaged 23.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game. Coming out of Chief Stealth High School in Seattle, Lambert was a Parade All-American.
According to Mulkey-Robertson, "Sheila is the ultimate point guard who can score and distribute the ball. She is capable of playing any of our perimeter positions. Sheila is one of the most unselfish players I've ever seen. She gets just as much pleasure from passing and making a teammate look good as she does from scoring. "
Mathisen, a native of Melbourne, Australia, is a 5-8 guard. She averaged 13.7 points a game this past season including 116 three-pointers. As the team's three-point specialist, Mathisen hit 116-of-281 from beyond the arc for 41.3 percent. She was named first team all-conference.
"Every team needs a perimeter shooter," said Mulkey-Robertson. "Carla is a three-point specialist who hit over 40 percent from the three-point line this past season. She is a very competitive athlete."
McCormack will be shoring up the post position for the Lady Bears. The 6-2 post, a native of Melbourne, Australia earned most improved honors for the Lady Vikings this past season and was also named first team all-conference. She averaged 9.3 points and 7.2 rebounds a game.
"Brooke is a solid post player who has improved each year at Grayson. She brings added size that we need in rebounding to compete in the Big 12. Her best basketball is ahead of her," commented Mulkey-Robertson.
The trio led this season's Grayson team to a 36-1 record and a third place finish in the National Junior College Tournament. Their two-year record at Grayson was 68-2.
