WACO, Texas - Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson has named Jennifer Roberts and Johnny Derrick as assistant women's basketball coaches.
"When you consider hiring a staff, loyalty is a priority," said Mulkey-Robertson. "I've known and worked with Jennifer and Johnny for a long time. When you're trying to build a program you want people you can depend on, who have lots of energy and can get things done."
Roberts, 27, a native of Shreveport, has been associated with Louisiana Tech women's basketball for five years and this past year served as an assistant to the Athletic Director. She was a manager for the Lady Techsters and spent four years as assistant coach for the Shreveport AAU basketball team. She is a 1997 graduate of Louisiana Tech.
Derrick, 42, comes to Baylor from Ruston, La., where he has worked in the business community. In his 24 years with CGU Insurance, he has risen through the ranks of the company and most recently was manager of the Ruston direct billing operation.
According to Mulkey-Robertson, "Johnny's duties include scheduling, travel arrangements and any additional administrative areas of the program. His business background will be invaluable to women's basketball at Baylor. He is very knowledgeable about the game, and in fact, knows more basketball than many assistants I know."
Mulkey-Robertson said, "I am excited about having Jennifer and Johnny on my staff and look forward to the roles they will play in enhancing women's basketball at Baylor University."
The hiring of Roberts and Derrick leaves one position open. Mulkey-Robertson hopes to name her top assistant and recruiting coordinator soon.
