Jennings Finalist For Golden Spikes

WACO, Texas - The Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the the player who exhibits exceptional athletic ability and exemplary sportsmanship, has announced that former Baylor baseball player Jason Jennings is one of five finalists for the award.
Jennings will be competing against Ken Harvey from Nebraska, Bobby Hill from the University of Miami, Marshal McDougall from Florida State and Eric Munson from Southern Cal.
The awards that Jennings has already claimed are 1998 Co-Player and 1999 Big 12 Player of the Year, 1999 First-Team All-American by USA Today/Baseball Weekly and College Baseball Insider, 1999 National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and USA Today/Baseball Weekly, 1999 Rotary Smith Award and NCBWA/Dick Howser Trophy for most outstanding baseball player.
Former winners of the Golden Spikes Award include current major leaguers J.D. Drew (Florida State), Mark Kotsay (Cal State Fullerton), Jason Varitek (Georgia Tech), Alex Fernandez (Miami-Dade CC South) and Robin Ventura (Oklahoma State).
The twenty-second annual Golden Spikes Award will be given on November 3 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.
