WACO, Texas - Baylor baseball coach Steve Smith announced Wednesday the signing of infielder Clay Coates.
A native of Little Rock, Ark., Coates was a four-year starter at Conway High School. As a senior, he led the Wampus Cats to the Arkansas 5A state playoffs with a .417 batting average, 43 RBI, and a team-leading nine home runs. During his prep career, Coates was twice named to the all-state team and earned all-conference honors three times.
Coates also earned honorable mention all-America honors from both USA Today and Collegiate Baseball.
"Clay Coates is an exceptional player and an outstanding young man. We are proud to have him join our program," said Smith.
The addition of Coates brings the total number of Baylor signees to ten. The Bears have already received commitments from David Murphy, Sam Hays, Trey Webb, Michael Heldoorn, Trevor Mote, Paul Richmond, Mickey Nichol, Jared Clements and Cody Hall.
