WACO, Texas - Redshirt freshman Ross Bennett homered for the first time in his college career to help the Baylor baseball team to a 10-3 win over UT-San Antonio Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Bears improve to 5-2 on the season, while the Roadrunners fall to 1-5. Freshman right-hander Steven White earned his first collegiate win, tossing 5.0 innings and giving up three runs on six hits. He walked one batter and struck out three.
After falling behind in the top of the third, Jaime Bubela walked, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Bennett then hit a two RBI home run to tie the score at three runs.
After the Roadrunnner's coach, Mickey Lashley was ejected in the top of the fourth, Baylor exploded for three runs in the fifth. Bennett led off with a single and Matt Williams reached base after being hit by the pitcher to put runners at first and second. Kelly Shoppach then doubled for an RBI and freshman Ron Zboril knocked in two runners with a stand-up double.
Senior Anthony Hensley was outstanding on the basepaths, stealing three bases to bring his season total to six. Hensley stole 29 bases for the Bears in 1999.
Baylor travels to Fort Worth on Friday for a 2 p.m., non-conference game with former Southwest Conference rival Texas Christian.
