OXFORD, Miss. - Catcher Kelly Shoppach continued his hot streak, going 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Baylor baseball team to a 5-2 victory over Ole Miss Tuesday night.
With the win, fourth-ranked Baylor improves to 16-3 on the season, while Ole Miss falls to 10-4.
Freshman right-hander Steven White picked up his third win of the season (3-0), scattering four hits and two runs over six plus innings. Sophomore Kyle Edens earned his third save, coming in to relieve Derek Brehm in the bottom of the seventh with one out and the bases loaded.
The Bears got on the board early, scoring a run in the second and a run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. In the top of the fifth inning, Mike Huggins reached base on an error by the third baseman. Jace Brewer then singled to put runners at first and second. Steve Dorneman smacked a double to centerfield to bring in Huggins, and Shoppach slugged a two-run single to put the Bears up 5-0.
The Rebels threatened with two runs in the seventh, but Edens gave up just one hit in 2 2/3 innings to keep the Baylor lead safe.
Baylor and Ole Miss will play again Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
