FULLERTON, Calif. - The Baylor Bears rebounded from yesterday's blow-out, responding with an easy 9-1 win on the road over Cal State-Fullerton Sunday.
Kyle Evans (2-0) threw seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and notching four strikeouts for the win. Justin Taylor closed out the game for Baylor, allowing one hit and one unearned run in his two innings.
The Bears got it going early when Kelly Shoppach homered in the second inning, giving Baylor a 1-0 lead.
In the third, Baylor added six more runs. Jace Brewer had a two-run homer in the inning, while Shoppach, Mike Huggins, and Chris Durbin pitched in with RBI singles.
Baylor went up 8-0 in the fifth, thanks to a Huggins home run, one of his three hits on the day. Huggins scored again in the eighth on a wild pitch for Baylor's ninth run.
Cal State-Fullerton broke up the shutout in the eighth with a single tally. Jeff Gates walked, went to second on a sacrifice bunt, took third on an errant pickoff throw by Taylor, and scored on an error by Brewer.
With the win, Baylor is now 4-2 on the year. Cal State-Fullerton drops to 2-4.
The Bears return home for Wednesday's match-up against UTSA. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Baylor Ballpark.
