HOUSTON - Houston scored ten runs in the first inning to cruise to a 13-2 win over the Baylor baseball team Tuesday night at Cougar Field.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 31-12 on the season, while the Cougars improve to 27-13.
Freshman starter Steven White (4-2) took the loss for Baylor, giving up eight earned runs on four hits in less than an inning of work. Houston starter Shane Nance (4-1) earned the win, allowing just two hits and striking out three in three innings.
Baylor scored a run in the fifth when Bryan Loeb doubled right center and was driven in by Anthony Hensley's single to right field. Designated hitter Ross Bennett added a solo home run to right center in the eighth.
Seventh-ranked Baylor plays host to the University of Dallas Wednesday at 7 p.m. Tickets from last week's rained-out Rice game will be honored.
