BELTON, Texas - After falling behind 2-0 in the third inning, the No. 10 Baylor baseball team scored seven runs in the fifth to beat Mary Hardin-Baylor 9-4 on Tuesday.
With the win, the Bears improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 0-1.
Anthony Hensley led off the fifth inning, reaching second base on an error by the first baseman. Jaime Bubela followed with a base hit, setting the stage for Jace Brewer to hit a two RBI double to put the Bears up 3-2. The error-filled inning continued, with the Crusaders racking up four errors and a wild pitch. Baylor wrapped up the inning, and the game, with runs from Kelly Shoppach, Mike Huggins, Bryan Loeb and Preston Underdown.
Junior Kyle Evans spent five innings on the mound and earned the win. Freshman Steven White made his first collegiate appearance, throwing three innings and giving up just two hits and one run.
Brewer owns the team's longest hitting streak, having hit safely in 14 straight games.
Baylor hits the road Friday for a three-game series with No. 5 Cal State Fullerton over the weekend.
