Longhorns Rebound With 7-4 Win Over Bears

AUSTIN, Texas - Despite home runs by Jaime Bubela and Jace Brewer, the Baylor baseball team lost to Texas 7-4 in front of a crowd of 6,671 fans Saturday night in Austin.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 33-13 on the season, 16-7 in Big 12 play, while the Longhorns improve to 34-10 overall and 16-6 in the league. Texas also regained the conference lead, moving a half-game ahead of Baylor.
Texas starter Beau Hale (9-2) earned the win, scattering eight hits and four runs over eight-and-a-third innings. Baylor's Kyle Evans (8-1) lost his first game of the season, giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits in seven-and-a-third.
After two scoreless innings, Texas jumped on the board with four runs in the third. Baylor countered with Bubela's solo shot to left field in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4. In the sixth, Jeff Ontiveros doubled to left center and came in on a wild pitch to put the Longhorns up 5-4. Texas sealed the win with a run in the eighth.
Baylor remains in Austin for the final game of the series Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Disch-Falk Field.
