Baylor Closes Home Season With Win

WACO, Texas - The No. 18-ranked Baylor women's tennis blew past Nebraska on Sunday in Waco, with a, 8-1, win. Baylor took the dual match from Nebraska by sweeping singles singles play.
Playing at No. one singles, No. 22-ranked Jahnavi Parekh defeated No. 66-ranked Sandra Noetzel in a three set battle. Parekh took the first set, 7-6, with a five point tie-breaker. She lost the second set, 1-6, but ca,e back in the third to take the match, 6-1.
"They altered Noetzel's game for Jahnavi, and that shows respect," Coach Dave Luedtke said.
Baylor's No. 73-ranked Katja Kovac defeated Ndali Ijomah in strait sets to win the No. two singles point, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman, Vida Mulec took the No. three singles match, 6-3, 6-3, from Katarina Balan. At No. four singles, Karin Andersson blew by Maria Fernandez, 6-1, 6-1, and Frida Borjesson took the No. five singles point from Gina Pelazini, 6-1, 6-3. Senior, Claudia Aguilar played in her last home match with the Bears against Amy Frisch. She won the first set, 6-4, and dropped the second set, 5-7. Aguilar fought back in the third and won her match at No. six singles with a, 6-2, final set.
"Claudia is a senior we will miss dearly. With that kind of heart, she is going to make it, and we were glad to have her on the team for three years," said Luedtke.
In doubles play, the No. 48-ranked Kovac and Mulec upset Nebraska's No. 40-ranked Noetzel and Pelazini, 8-5. At No. two doubles, Andersson and Borjesson were defeated by Balan and Fernandez, 9-7, and Aguilar and Paola Stephen defeated Ijomah and Stacey Tomkiewicz, 8-6.
