Bears Fend Off Arkansas, Win 5-4

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The No. 19-ranked Baylor women's tennis avoided an upset against the No. 28-ranked Razorbacks, holding on for a 5-2 win Saturday at the UA Varsity Courts.
No. 54-ranked Katja Kovac finished off her match against Arkansas senior, Andrea Ho, with a, 6-1, 6-1 win.
The Bears were strong in singles, splitting the points three-all, with Kovac, Karin Andersson and Frida Borjesson picking up victories for the Bears.
Playing on court one, No. 18-ranked Jahnavi Parekh was defeated by No. 22-ranked Chin Bee Choo, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4. Vida Mulec was defeated by No. 99-ranked Brenda Vlasak, 6-3, 7-6 (8). Karin Andersson defeated Adriana Lopez, 6-7 (0), 6-4, 6-2. Frida Borjesson defeated Tara Reid at No. five singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, and Claudia Aguilar was defeated by Youlia Boyadjieva, 6-2, 6-0.
Entering doubles play, the Bears needed two wind to clench the dual match victory.
Parekh and Gonzalez finished first at No. three doubles, pulling in the win for the Bears against Reid and Boyadjieva, 8-4, to give the bears a 4-3 lead. Baylor clenched the match with No. 48-ranked Kovac and Mulec upsetting No. 26-ranked Ho and Choo, 8-5. Andersson and Borjesson were defeated on court two by Lopez and Valasak, 9-8 (2).
With the victory Baylor moves to 19-2, and Arkansas drops to 9-11 on the year. The Bears will play their last conference match against the University of Texas on April 22nd, at 2 pm.m in Austin.
