No. 49 Kansas State Upsets No. 18 Baylor

MANHATTAN, Kan. - No. 49 Kansas State upset No. 18 Baylor, 5-4, to end the Bear's 12-match winning streak. It was the Bear's first loss of the season.
The first four singles matches went to three sets, and lasted over two hours each. At No. one singles No. 22-ranked Jahnavi Parekh defeated No. 37-ranked Petra Sedlmajerova 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, to take her record to 27-6.
"The singles matches were some of the best tennis anybody could see, " said Wildcat head coach Steve Bietau. "Just to see how hard everyone played and the effort that was out on the court was unbelievable."
Balyor pulled ahead 2-0 when Karin Andersson won the third set tiebreaker at No. four singles. She defeated Eva Novotna, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 (4).
Kansas State took No. 2 and 3 singles to even it out at 2-2. No. 45-ranked Katja Kovac was upset by Alena Jecminkova, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (1), at No. two singles. At No. three singles No. 99-ranked Vida Mulec lost to Anna Pampoulova, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
Fida Borjesson fell to KSU's Kathy Chuda at No. five singles, 6-3, 6-3, and Claudia Aguilar took the No. six singles match by defeating Natalia Farmer, 6-1, 6-1.
The score sat at three all going into the deciding doubles matches.
Kovac and Mulec fought hard to make up KSU's 7-2 lead, and brought the No. one doubles match to a 7-7 stand off. Sedlmajerova and Novotna took the next two deciding points to win, 9-7. At No. two doubles Andersson and Borjesson were defeated by Jeminkova and Pampoulova, 8-4, and Gonzalez and Parekh took the remaining doubles match from Chuda and Farmer, 8-4.
The Bears will play Kansas tomorrow in Lawrence, Kan. at 11 a.m.
