Bears Put Up Solid Marks At Oklahoma Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - Pole vaulter Jim Autenreith automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a vault of 18-05 at the Oklahoma Classic Saturday in Norman, Okla. Autenreith joins quartermiler Brandon Couts and the men's 4x400 meter relay as the first to automatically qualify for the national meet.
The women's mile relay also improved their time at the Oklahoma Classic, clocking a provisional time of 3:39.29.
The Bears picked up six first places finishes in Norman. Aside from Autenrieth, Karin Ernstrom took the 3000 meter race with a 9:51.23. Baylor finished second, third, fourth and sixth in that event. Peter Hauser won the 400 meter dash with a 40.63. Newcomer Ferenc Bekesi ran a 4:14.33 in the mile to take the top spot, while Michael Smith won the 60 meter high hurdles in 7.97 seconds. High jumper Marcus Swiat won his event after clearing 7-00.
This weekend the Bears will compete in the Big XII Indoor Championships hosted by Iowa State University. The two-day meet begins Friday at 9 a.m. in Ames, Iowa.
